The week before September’s NYFW, I had the opportunity to do a little bit of extra photography for an up-and-coming streetwear brand, Modus Vivendii. Started as a blog in 2011 by three stylish Nigerian boys in London and expanding into unique apparel in 2012, it has since grown into a full-fledged brand focused on providing high-quality streetwear to its clients.
I’d met the boys by chance outside of a VFiles event (where inside, the famous Naomi Campbell had been signing autographs and posing for fan photos), and upon bonding over our shared Nigerian heritage, we made vague plans to work together in the future, and promised to keep in contact.
Fast forward five days; in Central Park, a group of models were posing themselves up against rocks and in the branches of trees while two of the designers darted back and forth between a gazebo and the highest stone boulder, carrying clothes and adjusting looks.
With my limited knowledge of streetwear photography, I wanted to romanticize the pieces; indeed, the collection already features a recurring floral motif, so I decided to accent the lush green of summer foliage with images of flowers I’d spotted during my NYC traipses.
